USA Today reports on the American Heart Association’s new stroke preventions guidelines. For the first time, special recommendations are outlined because women have a unique risk: living longer and having different hormone levels than men. The AHA says that women with migraine preceded by aura (a visual phenomenon appearing as central or peripheral shimmering or colored lights with blind spots) should stop smoking to avoid raising their risk of stroke. High blood pressure, contraceptives, and atrial fibrillation were also discussed.
